Peoria, Ariz. (Jan 21, 2018) – As if we are reliving the 2016 Winter Challenge, Hunter Marriot
has evened the score with Ricky Thornton Jr in the Leading Edge IMCA Modifieds. Marriott snagged the lead early on and never relinquished as Jason Noll and Ricky Thornton Jr battled for the runner up position. Speedy Madrid brought home his first win of the year in the Arizona Differential Sport Mods and Joe Bellm knocked George Fronsman off the throne in the Allscapes IMCA Stock Cars. Joe Vlasity dominated
en route to a sweep in the Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks while Dustin Washburn completed a sweep of his own in the Dwarf Cars.
Marriott utilized a front row starting spot to establish an early lead in the
25 lap “A” Feature event for the Leading Edge IMCA Modifieds. Once he gained control of the race he never looked back, even while Thornton Jr and Noll waged a battle for the second spot. Utilizing the middle to the high side of the track both Thornton and Noll swapped the spot numerous times before Thornton eventually took it
over with Noll holding on to the third position. Brian Schultz charged from a 12th starting spot to wind up fourth on the field with the defending National Champion Jason Wolla rounding out the top five from his 11th starting spot.
Speedy Madrid rolled from his third starting spot to the win during the second round of the Winter Challenge in Arizona Differential Sport Mod competition. Jason George mirrored his luck from day one as he spun early in the feature sending him to the rear of the field. Much like Saturday, he worked his way all the way back to the front and sat in the cat bird seat while the field lined up for a green-white-
checkered restart. As the field raced the checkers, Speedy was simply too strong as he stuck his car on the bottom and drove away to the win. George held
on for second with Chase Alves, Roy Poeling Jr and Bill Miller rounding out the top five.
George Fronsman ran into issues during the “A” Feature in the Allscapes IMCA Stock Cars, leaving the door open for another driver to visit victory lane. Joe Bellm who travelled from Broomfield, CO was able to take advantage as he bested Cody Center in
a battle for the lead early in the event. After establishing the lead Joe didn’t relinquish, holding on for the win while Cody Center held on to the runner up spot in front of Vance Honea. Thomas Daffern wound up fourth on the field with Dennis Losing taking the fifth spot.
Joe Vlasity dominated en route
to another victory in the Desert Restorations Hobby Stocks. After winning six races in nine events during the 2017 campaign, Vlasity is now
two for two to start the new season. The Glendale driver drove to the lead early while Bradley Stafford settled comfortably into the second spot. Heat race winner Justin Thornton drove his way from the sixth starting spot into the top three while Merle Zachrison grabbed his second top five of the weekend, finishing in fourth. Max Zachrison finished out in fifth to land himself in the top five for the second day in a row.
Dustin Washburn capitalized on another wild round of Dwarf Car action during their “A” Feature. Mac Marmon led early until he got himself loose in turn four, spinning in front of the field. The field avoided contact with Marmon, who was able to drive back for a sixth place finish. With Marmon out of the
running, Washburn took control of the race, staying in the lead until the end. After a great early battle within the top five, Kyle Dodd finished in the second spot Rusty Degroat crossing the line just behind him in third after starting 11th. Bill Dodd wound up in fourth and Dalton Hatten drove from his 16th starting position to round out the top five.
