 Dear Readers,
As you are aware racing season is on in full force. We
encountered a very short fall/spring and now the time is on befor the heat, so we need to make to best of
the weather to enjoy our motorsports. In this issue you’ll have a few stories to read. One is the Parker 425. As
a younger man I had a dream to race and I started attending different race venues. I went to Riverside Raceway and watched IROC and Winston Cup and several desert races, before they started to become crazy (and I will leave it that). After watching several different venues, I looked at getting into off-road racing. Street racing is one thing but to see a vehicle going at
100 mph and the vehicle is staying still as the suspension is moving at a rapid pace was very cool to me, and I
imagine that this appeals to others. While others made it a reality my dream stayed a dream.
Years later I started watching drag racing. One item that sticks with someone is to be on the starting line is the
vibration of a Top Fuel dragster or Funny Car throughout your entire body. Then there is the smell of nitro as the
11,000+ horsepower engine pumps the fuel through the engine and out the exhaust. Of course the pipes are
pointing at the people along the wall, when they zip by you in the blink of an eye. What is left behind is the smell. It makes your eyes water and the nose hairs feel
as though they were on fire. Time for a cup of coffee and round two.
At the last race I worked I ran into a few of our readers. One pointed out that I look mad in my self
portrait, so in our next issue I will be working on a new look. Also it is time for me to change my background
photo, so I will be reviewing lots of photos in the next few months. Please look forward to a story on the AZOP race and a few other off-road races.
Remember body up, wheels down amd go fast while having fun. Race Hard. v
