As we have entered the fall months we are seeing more and more events ending. October 20th was such a day. Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park was the location where the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series held their season finale race. There was a lot of chatter coming into this race about
who will take the championship in their classes, but more so in the Pro classes. Several were coming in looking to do back-to-back season class wins.
First out was the Junior 2 Karts. Off the start it was Karaston Hernandez taking the lead ahead of Ethan Ebert, Jake Bollman and points leader Connor Barry. Hernandez held this lead through lap five and a competition yellow. On the restart Barry made a move on Hernandez but she would not let him by.
Bollman was able to pass Ebert to take the third spot. Barry and Hernandez continued to battle. Barry went wide
to try to make another attempt, but Hernandez kept him at bay. On the final lap as the class crossed the finish line Hernandez took the win, her first win in the Junior 2 Kart class. Barry followed in with a second while Bollman took the third. Barry had a big point lead coming into the final race, so just crossing the finish line gave him the series, and he was crowned Junior 2 Karts Champion.
Next out was Junior 1 Karts. Jake Bollman was the points leader in this class and on the start took the lead right away keeping the second-place points rival Ayden Ford in his dust. Kaylee Federwisch, Bergen McGrath, and Lake Adler finished the first several
laps. Bollman pulled away from the pack giving him a short lead from second. Federwisch tried to pass Ford but Ford bumped her causing her to drop to fifth and moving McGrath up to third. In lap eight Ford and McGrath start a pace to move up and were on Bollman’s rear push bar but he held the lead. A lap and a half later the three coming around for the checker flag, Bollman held on for first while Ford pulled ahead for second and McGrath took third. There was a very happy Bollman when he came to the podium, who also took home the season championship in the Junior 1 Karts.
In Modified Karts, Mason Prater had only seven-point lead on the second plade Brody Eggleston coming into the qualifying session that morning. In the main event Prater and Eggleston sat
on the pole. The pack made to lap two when Prater went wide going into turn two, jump hitting the K rails but not crashing, just coming to a stop which forced a yellow caution to be towed
off. This gave Eggleston the lead and changed the lineup with his brother
Trey moving into second Bronsen Chiaramonte third, Mia Chapman fourth and Luke Knupp fifth. This pace went a few laps with a couple of place changes behind Eggleston. John Holtger passed Knupp but then spun out. Knupp was trying to avoid being taken out when Braden Chiaramonte moved into fifth right before the yellow flag. After the restart Braden moved around Chapman but in turn two got up on two wheels and Chapman ran into him and rolled her kart, then up track there was another
